Meta Shares Fluctuate After Unveiling 'Muse' Autonomous AI Agent

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) shares experienced a volatile trading session Tuesday after the company unveiled Muse, a new proactive personal AI agent capable of autonomously executing complex digital tasks for users.
The stock initially gained 1% following the announcement before reversing course to close in negative territory, reflecting investor uncertainty about the new product's immediate impact.
A New Class of AI Assistant
Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg introduced Muse as an autonomous digital proxy that operates beyond the scope of conventional chatbots. Powered by Meta's new real-world task model, Muse Spark, the agent is designed to independently manage tasks such as sending emails, booking travel, and completing online forms without continuous user supervision.
A key feature highlighted in the announcement is Muse's ability to continue working on complex requests even after a user closes the application. It will only resurface to request human approval for sensitive actions, such as finalizing a purchase or sending a critical message.
Emphasis on Security and Control
To address potential security and privacy concerns, Meta has built a multi-layered security architecture for the new agent. According to the company, key security features include:
Ad- Muse Secure VM: A dedicated virtual machine designed to completely isolate the agent and the user's personal data.
- Sentinel: A secondary AI that acts as a watchdog, vetting every action Muse attempts to take on the internet before it is executed.
"You’re in control," Mark Zuckerberg stated in the announcement. "You choose which apps and services Muse has access to and you can disconnect them at any time." Passwords and login credentials will be used by the agent without being directly exposed, and user approval will be required for sensitive actions.
Rollout and Commercial Integrations
Muse is currently rolling out for free to users across the United States on iOS, Android, and the web at muse.ai. Meta plans to introduce premium subscription tiers and support for AI glasses in the future. To support its e-commerce capabilities, Muse will be the first AI agent covered by Stripe’s Link purchase protections, with integrations for Shop Pay and 1Password planned.
Later this year, the company intends to launch Muse Confidential VM, a premium service offering total end-to-end data encryption controlled exclusively by a user-held key, further bolstering its security credentials.
