Lundbeck Shares Rally on UBS Upgrade, Bexicaserin Optimism

Summary
Shares of the Danish drugmaker surged after UBS upgraded the stock to 'Buy,' citing the significant commercial potential and an accelerated development timeline for its epilepsy drug candidate, bexicaserin.
Shares of H. Lundbeck (HLUNb) climbed 2.6% to DKK 43.66 after analysts at UBS upgraded the Danish pharmaceutical company to Buy from Neutral. The bank also raised its price target, citing increasing confidence in the company's drug development pipeline.
Analyst Cites Epilepsy Drug Potential
The upgrade is primarily based on the transformative commercial potential of bexicaserin, Lundbeck's investigational treatment for severe epilepsy. In a note to clients, UBS raised its price target on the stock to DKK 52 from DKK 45.
UBS analysts forecast that bexicaserin's sales could run approximately 30% above the market consensus. They argue the drug has the potential to offset the anticipated patent expiration for the company's key drug, Rexulti, in 2029 — a major concern that has recently weighed on Lundbeck's valuation.
Accelerated Timeline De-Risks Pipeline
Confidence in bexicaserin has been bolstered by recent developments that have de-risked its path to market. Lundbeck announced at its Q3 2026 results that it had accelerated the timeline for its Phase 3 DEEp OCEAN trial, with a readout now expected by the end of 2026 instead of 2027.
AdFurthermore, the company announced on September 15 that its companion DEEp SEA trial for Dravet syndrome was fully enrolled. According to UBS, with both pivotal trials for bexicaserin now fully recruited, investors have significantly improved visibility on the asset's development.
Technical Overhang Removed
The stock's rally was also supported by the removal of a technical headwind. A voluntary A-to-B share exchange offer from major shareholder Lundbeckfond Invest A/S expired on September 16, 2026.
This offer had created dilution pressure specifically on the B-share class. With its expiration, that pressure has been lifted, allowing the shares to trade more closely in line with the company's underlying fundamentals.
