Lockheed Martin Stock Jumps on Strong Earnings and Raised Outlook

Shares of Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) surged 5.2% in pre-market trading Tuesday after the defense giant reported second-quarter earnings and revenue that beat Wall Street estimates and raised its full-year financial guidance.
Earnings Beat and Raised Guidance
The company announced its Q2 2026 results before the market opened, revealing robust performance that exceeded analyst consensus. The outperformance was attributed to strong demand, particularly from the Pentagon's efforts to replenish munitions stockpiles.
Key figures from the report include:
- Adjusted EPS: $7.94, well above the consensus estimate of approximately $7.23.
- Revenue: $20.1 billion, an 11% year-over-year increase, topping the estimated $19.37 billion.
Following the strong quarter, Lockheed Martin lifted its full-year 2026 forecast. The company now expects revenue in a range of $79.75 billion to $81.75 billion and per-share profit between $29.95 and $30.65, with both ranges ahead of prior guidance and analyst expectations.
AdUnderlying Strength and Shareholder Returns
The positive results are supported by a record backlog of $194 billion, which the company noted is equivalent to roughly two and a half years of annual sales. This substantial backlog provides exceptional revenue visibility for key programs like the F-35 fighter jet, PAC-3 and THAAD missile defense systems, and space systems.
Reinforcing its commitment to shareholder returns, Lockheed's board also declared a third-quarter dividend of $3.45 per share, payable on September 25, 2026.
Market Reaction
Lockheed's significant pre-market gain stood out against a softer backdrop for the broader U.S. equity market, where the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were trading slightly lower. While other defense sector stocks also traded positively, Lockheed's advance was primarily driven by its strong company-specific results, according to pre-market data.
