KPMG UK to Cut 200 Back-Office Roles Amid Swiss Integration

KPMG UK is planning to reduce its support staff by 10%, a move that could affect approximately 200 roles, according to a Bloomberg report citing a company spokesperson. The proposed cuts are part of the Big Four accounting firm's ongoing effort to integrate its UK and Swiss operations.
Integration Drives Restructuring
The job reductions are a direct result of the firm's 2024 merger with its Swiss counterpart. In an emailed statement, a KPMG spokesperson said the goal is to refine the company's operating model to avoid post-merger duplication.
The firm aims to "make the most of our technology investments and to expand our offshore delivery," the spokesperson told Bloomberg. The proposed cuts are subject to a consultation process, in compliance with UK employment law.
AdA Pattern of Workforce Reduction
This latest move follows a previous round of layoffs in March, when KPMG UK cut more than 400 roles from its audit division. At the time, the firm attributed the decision to a lack of natural attrition, or voluntary employee departures.
The repeated workforce adjustments highlight the pressures facing the professional services industry, as major firms seek to optimize costs and restructure their operations in response to shifting market demands and post-merger synergies.
