Italy's FTSE MIB Edges Lower as Tech and Auto Stocks Decline

Italy's benchmark stock index finished Tuesday's session slightly in the red, weighed down by declines in several key sectors. The Investing.com Italy 40, or FTSE MIB, fell by 0.12% by the close of trading in Milan.
Session Movers
The downturn was led by weakness in technology and automotive stocks. Chipmaker STMicroelectronics (BIT:STMMI) was the session's poorest performer on the index, falling 3.41% to close at 45.02. Automaker Stellantis NV (BIT:STLAM) dropped 2.80%, while luxury car manufacturer Ferrari NV (BIT:RACE) declined by 2.20%.
On the positive side, several companies bucked the negative trend. Notable gainers included:
- Telecom Italia (BIT:TLIT), which rose 2.89%.
- Prysmian SpA (BIT:PRY), advancing 2.39%.
- Fincantieri SpA (BIT:FCT), which gained 2.11%.
AdMarket Breadth and Commodities
Broader market sentiment on the Milan exchange was negative, with 394 stocks declining compared to 305 advancers, while 63 stocks closed unchanged. The data indicates that selling pressure was more widespread than the modest dip in the main index suggests.
In commodity markets, oil prices saw gains, with WTI Crude futures for October delivery rising 0.70% to $92.12 a barrel. In contrast, December Gold futures fell by 0.86%. In currency markets, the EUR/USD pair was largely unchanged, while the U.S. Dollar Index Futures registered a decline of 0.29%.
