The sell-off was led by several prominent companies, highlighting the weakness in key sectors. The session's worst performers included:
- Poste Italiane SpA (BIT:PST), which dropped 3.78%
- Telecom Italia (BIT:TLIT), declining 3.61%
- Brunello Cucinelli (BIT:BCU), which was down 3.33%
Energy Stocks Buck the Trend
AdDespite the broader market downturn, some companies in the energy sector managed to post gains, supported by a rally in oil prices. Tenaris SA (BIT:TENR), a supplier of tubes and services for the energy industry, was the day's top performer on the index, rising 1.92%.
Energy major Eni SpA (BIT:ENI) also finished in positive territory, adding 1.54%. The gains coincided with a significant jump in crude markets, where Brent oil futures for December delivery rose 4.82% to $92.63 a barrel.
Broader Market Indicators
In currency markets, the euro saw slight movements, with the EUR/USD pair up 0.22% to 1.16. Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of other major currencies, advanced 0.21% to 99.60. In commodities, the December Gold Futures contract fell 1.39% to trade at $4,419.34 a troy ounce.
