Indian Equities Climb as Tech and Auto Stocks Lead Gains

Summary
India's benchmark stock indices, the Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex, closed higher on Monday, driven by strong performance in the information technology, real estate, and auto sectors.
Indian equity markets finished in positive territory on Monday, with benchmark indices posting solid gains as investor sentiment was lifted by strength in key growth sectors.
At the close of trading, the NSE Nifty 50 index added 0.96%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.02%, according to market data.
Market Internals and Volatility
The rally was supported by broad market participation. On the India National Stock Exchange (NSE), advancing stocks outnumbered decliners by a margin of 1682 to 885. A similar trend was observed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), where 2562 stocks rose and 1536 fell.
Reflecting the positive sentiment, the India VIX, a key gauge of expected market volatility, fell sharply by 9.93% to 12.64. A decline in the VIX typically indicates reduced investor anxiety and expectations of more stable market conditions ahead.
Sector and Stock Movers
Gains were led by the Information Technology, Real Estate, and Auto sectors. Among the top performers on the Nifty 50 were:
Ad- Eternal Ltd (ETEA): which rose 5.61%
- Infosys Ltd (INFY): which added 3.58%
- Bajaj Finance Ltd (BJFN): which was up 3.57%
On the other end of the spectrum, the energy sector faced headwinds. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) was the session's worst performer, falling 4.17%. Weakness was also seen in some financial names, with HDFC Life Insurance and HDFC Bank posting modest declines.
Broader Market Snapshot
In the commodities market, crude oil prices saw a significant drop, with Brent and WTI futures falling sharply. Meanwhile, Gold Futures for August delivery traded higher.
In currency markets, the Indian Rupee strengthened against the U.S. dollar, with the USD/INR pair declining by 0.57% to 96.02.
