Background

Impulse Space, a company specializing in in-space transportation and logistics, announced Wednesday it has raised $308 million in an extension to its Series D funding round. The new capital brings the total for the round to $808 million and will be used to accelerate product development and team expansion.

Funding and Expansion

The funding extension saw participation from existing investors, including 137 Ventures, BANNER VC, DFJ Growth, Linse Capital, Lux Capital, and Valor Equity Partners, according to the company's announcement. Impulse Space stated the investment will support its growing capabilities for commercial, civil, and government clients.

This capital injection follows a period of significant growth for the company. According to President and COO Eric Romo, Impulse Space has more than doubled its headcount over the past year while also expanding its physical operations across the United States.

Key Contract Momentum

The financing comes as Impulse Space secures significant government contracts, validating its technology in the competitive national security space sector. The company's Helios spacecraft was recently selected for the U.S. Space Force’s National Security Space Launch Phase 3 Lane 1 contract, a first for an upper stage prime in the program.

Additionally, Impulse received a $28 million contract extension from the Space Systems Command’s Space Safari Office for the VICTUS SALO 2 and VICTUS SALO 3 missions. The company's product line includes:

  • Mira: A spacecraft for precision orbital maneuvering.
  • Helios: A high-energy kick stage.
  • Caravan: A rideshare service for deploying multiple satellites.
  • Electra: A newly unveiled electric propulsion system.

Strategic Leadership Appointment

To manage its financial growth, Impulse has appointed Adam Townsend as its first Chief Financial Officer. Townsend brings extensive public company experience, having previously served as CFO at VIZIO, where he guided the company through its IPO and subsequent sale to Walmart. His background also includes senior finance roles at CBS Corp., Showtime Networks, and ETRADE Financial, signaling Impulse's focus on scaling its financial operations.
