Background

Hostelworld Group (LSE:HSW) reported a 12% increase in net revenue to €52.2 million for the first half of 2026, driven by higher commission rates, though transaction volume growth was constrained by geopolitical conflict in the Middle East. The Ireland-based online travel agent announced the figures in its half-year results on Thursday, while maintaining its full-year outlook.

H1 Financial Highlights

According to the company's report, adjusted Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) rose 11% year-over-year to reach €8.2 million. The adjusted EBITDA margin remained stable at 16%, consistent with the same period last year.

The company attributed the solid top-line performance to operational improvements and effective monetization strategies, even as external factors presented headwinds.

Commission Growth Offsets Volume Constraints

A key driver of revenue growth was an increase in the company's effective commission rate, which climbed to 17.7%. Hostelworld credited this improvement to its Elevate marketplace monetization tool. Net margin growth also benefited from lower direct marketing costs as a percentage of revenue.

However, the company stated that overall transaction volume growth was limited due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The report specified that the Asia and Oceania regions experienced the most significant impact from this disruption.

Full-Year Guidance Maintained

Despite the challenges, Hostelworld reaffirmed its financial guidance for the full year 2026. The company said it expects the disruption from the Middle East conflict to ease in the second half of the year.

Management also anticipates a larger contribution from its internal growth initiatives as the year progresses, expressing confidence in its unchanged outlook.
