Holtec Nuclear Targets Up to $10.2 Billion Valuation in US IPO

Nuclear technology company Holtec is targeting a valuation of up to $10.2 billion in its U.S. initial public offering, according to a company filing on Tuesday. The move signals the start of the post-Labor Day period, a traditionally active time for new stock market listings.
IPO Details
Holtec, based in Camden, New Jersey, aims to raise as much as $900 million by offering 50 million shares to the public. The company has set an indicative price range for the offering at $15 to $18 per share.
Key details of the planned offering include:
- Lead Underwriters: J.P. Morgan, Guggenheim Securities, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and BofA Securities are serving as joint lead book-running managers.
- Exchange: The company plans to list on the Nasdaq and Nasdaq Texas exchanges.
- Ticker Symbol: Holtec will trade under the symbol "HNUC".
Market Context
AdThe IPO serves as an important barometer for capital markets, which are entering what is typically one of the busiest stretches for new deals. According to IPOX Research Associate Lukas Muehlbauer, the performance of the first companies to go public this fall could influence the pipeline of future listings.
"Strong showings [could] potentially encouraging more listings to come to market, while mispriced deals or poor aftermarket performances could narrow the window," Muehlbauer said, as reported by Reuters. He added that economic fundamentals and the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting will be primary drivers for the IPO market.
Resurgence in Nuclear Energy
Holtec's listing is part of a broader trend of nuclear energy firms turning to public markets. Companies like X-energy and Standard Nuclear have also recently completed traditional IPOs, moving away from the blank-check deals that were previously popular. Nuclear firm Westinghouse has also confidentially filed for a New York listing, according to reports.
This renewed investor interest comes as the rapid buildout of data centers strains U.S. power grids, fueling a surge in demand for reliable, high-capacity energy sources like nuclear power. Founded in 1986, Holtec specializes in reactor components, spent fuel storage, and decommissioning. The company is also developing small modular reactors (SMRs) and is working to restart the decommissioned 800-megawatt Palisades plant, which would be a first for a U.S. commercial reactor.
