Greencore Stock Surges After Upgrading Full-Year Profit Forecast

Summary
The convenience food producer raised its adjusted operating profit guidance for fiscal 2026, citing strong third-quarter revenue and a return to growth in its recently acquired Bakkavor business.
Greencore (GNC) shares surged on Wednesday after the company unexpectedly raised its full-year profit guidance in a third-quarter trading update. The positive revision, driven by solid revenue and improving performance in its newly integrated Bakkavor division, prompted a significant rally in the stock.
Guidance Lifted on Strong Q3
In a trading update for the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, published July 22, Greencore announced it was lifting its forecast for full-year adjusted operating profit. The news sent the company's stock climbing 9.4% to 242.7p in early trading.
The company reported pro-forma revenue growth of 3.2% for the quarter, consistent with its first-half performance, bringing total revenue to £1,024 million. The upgrade signals growing management confidence in the second half of the fiscal year, building on the 15.3% operating profit growth reported in the first half.
Bakkavor Integration Shows Promise
A key factor behind the optimistic outlook was the performance of the recently acquired Bakkavor business. Volumes in this unit returned to growth of 1.0% in the third quarter, a notable reversal from the 1.3% decline seen in the second quarter. This turnaround helped ease investor concerns that had lingered since the £1.2 billion acquisition closed in January 2026.
AdGreencore also reiterated that it remains on track to deliver at least £80 million in annual cost synergies from the integration within its previously communicated timeframe. The combination of recovering volumes and confirmed synergies provided a strong fundamental basis for the upgraded forecast.
Market Reaction
The rally in Greencore shares was driven entirely by company-specific catalysts. The move occurred against a backdrop of modest declines in the broader market, with major U.S. indices trading in negative territory, underscoring the strength of the company's update.
While the stock saw a significant single-day gain, it remains below its 52-week high of 307.5p. The upgraded guidance suggests that investors may continue to re-evaluate the company's valuation as the benefits of the Bakkavor acquisition become more apparent.
