Goldman Sachs, Bank of America Compete for Anthropic Wealth Management Ahead of IPO

A host of major Wall Street firms, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Bank of America Corp., are competing to provide wealth management services to employees of artificial intelligence startup Anthropic PBC ahead of its expected initial public offering, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Banks Pitch for Pre-IPO Mandate
Anthropic has reportedly been in discussions with several large financial institutions as it seeks to create a recommended list of financial advisers for its staff. The AI company, known for its Claude chatbot, initiated a request for information in recent weeks, asking firms to detail their wealth-management offerings, including fees and services.
According to the report, other major banks involved in the process include:
- JPMorgan Chase & Co.
- Wells Fargo & Co.
- The wealth unit of Bank of New York Mellon Corp.
AdSmaller boutique and advisory firms have also responded to Anthropic's request. This competition is separate from the banks' efforts to secure a role in underwriting the IPO itself.
Capturing Silicon Valley Windfalls
The contest highlights a lucrative and common practice on Wall Street, where banks vie to advise the newly wealthy employees of major technology companies following a public listing. An initial public offering often creates substantial, complex windfalls for employees holding stock options and equity, requiring professional guidance on tax planning, investment strategy, and financial management.
Anthropic's eventual public market debut represents the latest significant opportunity for wealth management divisions to attract a new wave of high-net-worth clients from the technology sector. The IPO is anticipated to generate considerable wealth for the company's employees, making the advisory mandate a highly sought-after prize among financial firms.
