Background

A group of 139 German companies has committed to investing more than €800 billion ($860 billion) in the country through 2028, according to a Tuesday announcement from the "Made for Germany" corporate initiative.

Expanded Commitment

The project, which includes industrial giant Siemens and financial institution Deutsche Bank, has grown significantly since its inception. The initiative was first launched in July 2025 with an initial pledge of €631 billion from 61 member companies. The stated goal is to resuscitate investor confidence in Europe's largest economy.

According to the Reuters report, it was not immediately clear what proportion of the newly announced investment total represents fresh capital commitments versus funds that were already planned by the participating firms.

CEOs Call for Government Reform

Corporate leaders used the announcement to urge the German government to accelerate economic reforms. "We need more momentum. We need more courage. And we need it on a lasting basis," said Christian Sewing, CEO of Deutsche Bank, in a briefing with journalists.

Sewing also commented on the potential impact of politics on investment, noting that the rise of extremist parties would be "absolutely negative for investors." Separately, Siemens CEO Roland Busch called for more flexible working hours, stating, "People have to work more in this country."
