Breakdown of the Awards

The contract modifications are split between two of the company's major divisions:

  • General Dynamics NASSCO – Norfolk received a $26.8 million cost-plus-fixed-fee and award-fee modification. This contract covers engineering and manufacturing work for the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) aircraft carrier for fiscal year 2026.
  • General Dynamics Mission Systems Inc. was awarded a $20.8 million cost-plus-fixed-fee and cost-only modification. This extends support for the MK 54 MOD 1 Lightweight Torpedo Program, covering engineering services, hardware repair, and maintenance.

Project Timelines and Locations

The work for the USS Gerald R. Ford will be performed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, with an expected completion date of March 2027. The Navy has obligated the full contract amount using fiscal 2024 other procurement funds.

Work on the torpedo program, awarded on September 3, 2026, is expected to conclude by September 2029. The tasks will be distributed across several locations, with the majority taking place in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania (62%), and Salt Lake City, Utah (20%). The Navy obligated $18.7 million from fiscal 2025 defense research and development funds at the time of the award.
