Several large-cap technology and healthcare companies posted significant gains, lifting the overall index. The top performers included:

- WPP PLC (WPP): added 5.20%
- Relx PLC (REL): was up 5.17%
In contrast, industrial and mining stocks faced downward pressure. The session's biggest decliners were Halma PLC (HLMA), which fell 5.56%, and Antofagasta PLC (ANTO), which declined 5.38%. Weir Group PLC (WEIR) also ended the day down 4.48%.
AdMarket breadth data from the London Stock Exchange indicated that the gains were not widespread. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by a margin of 1,027 to 706, with 518 stocks ending the session unchanged. This suggests the index's rise was concentrated in its more heavily-weighted constituents.
Broader Market Snapshot
In commodity markets, energy prices moved higher while precious metals declined. Crude oil futures for October delivery rose 2.50% to $102.55 a barrel, and the November Brent oil contract gained 2.40% to trade at $107.12 a barrel. Meanwhile, Gold Futures for December delivery fell 1.73%.
In foreign exchange, the British pound was relatively stable against the U.S. dollar, with the GBP/USD pair up slightly by 0.27% to 1.35. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, was up 0.36%.
