Founder Group Stock Soars on Malaysian Solar Tender and Strategic Moves

Founder Group (FGL) stock surged 28.9% in pre-open trading on Wednesday, a sharp move driven by a confluence of company-specific catalysts rather than broader market sentiment. The rally pushed shares to $9.76 from a previous close of $7.57, as investors reacted to the company's strategic initiatives in the clean energy sector.
Major Solar Project Bid
The primary driver for the stock's ascent appears to be a September 2 announcement that its subsidiary, Founder Energy Sdn Bhd, is bidding for projects under Malaysia’s Large-Scale Solar 6 (LSS6) programme. According to Investing.com, this is the country's largest-ever utility-scale solar tender.
Founder Group described the initiative as a multi-year growth opportunity capable of expanding its order book through 2029. The LSS6 programme, launched in July 2026 by Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, includes:
- A total quota of 2,500 megawatts of solar capacity.
- 1,250 megawatts of battery energy storage.
- An expected US$3.2 to US$3.7 billion in private investment.
AdDiversification and Technical Factors
Adding to the positive sentiment, Founder Group recently completed the acquisition of a 19.90% equity interest in Nichcom Go, the operator of Malaysia’s SpacePlus EV charging network. This move signals a strategic diversification into clean energy infrastructure beyond its core solar engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) business. Reports in late August also indicated that a major investor had been increasing their stake in the company.
The stock's sharp price movement is also amplified by a recent technical change. A 100-for-1 reverse stock split took effect on September 1, 2026, a move executed to regain compliance with Nasdaq’s minimum bid price rule. This action has created a significantly smaller public float, making the stock more sensitive to shifts in buying pressure. The rally stands out as it occurs while broader market indexes like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were trading lower in the pre-market session.
