Background

Figma Inc. experienced a significant surge in options trading activity on Monday, with total volume reaching 145,248 contracts by 2:20 p.m. New York time. The trading was overwhelmingly bullish, indicating strong speculative interest in a potential rise in the design software company's stock price.

Bullish Bets Drive Volume

The vast majority of the trading activity was concentrated in call options, which are bets that a stock's price will increase. According to exchange data compiled by Bloomberg, call options accounted for 134,667 contracts, while put options, which bet on a price decline, totaled just 10,581 contracts.

This heavy skew towards calls suggests that traders are positioning for a significant upward move in Figma's shares. The heightened options activity coincided with a strong performance in the underlying stock, which was trading higher on the day.

Key Contracts in Focus

Several specific contracts attracted the bulk of the volume, with short-term expirations being particularly popular. The most significant activity included:

  • The July 17, 2026 $28 call was the most active contract, with 67,037 options traded. This volume was exceptionally high compared to the existing open interest of just 273 contracts, signaling a large number of new positions being opened.
  • A spread involving the July 17, 2026 $26 and $27 calls saw 9,942 contracts traded.
  • A diagonal spread combining July 24, 2026 $24 calls and September 18, 2026 $30 calls also accounted for 3,000 contracts.

For investors, such a dramatic and one-sided increase in options volume can be a key indicator of market sentiment. While it reflects a strong bullish conviction among a segment of traders, it can also foreshadow increased volatility in the underlying stock.
