Ferrexpo Shares Surge Over 33% as Trading Resumes on Production Restart News

Shares of Ferrexpo PLC (LSE:FXPO) surged more than 33% on Monday after UK regulators restored the iron ore producer's listing, allowing the market to react to a crucial operational restart at its facilities in Ukraine. The resumption of trading coincided with the company's announcement that it had brought one production line back online following a successful capital raise.
A Trio of Catalysts Lifts Suspension
The stock's dramatic re-rating was driven by a confluence of positive corporate events. The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced the restoration of the company's securities to the Official List, effective 7:30 a.m. GMT on September 7, 2026. The shares had been suspended from trading since May 1, 2026, due to a delay in publishing audited financial results for 2025.
The lifting of the suspension allowed investors to price in two other significant developments:
- The restart of mining and pelletising operations, with one pellet line now active.
- The successful completion of a US$100 million fundraising, announced on September 4, which provided the capital for the operational restart.
Operations Resume with European Focus
AdFerrexpo confirmed it had mobilized its Ukrainian operations over the weekend, resuming production after a suspension caused by logistics disruptions in the Black Sea. The company stated that given the continuing attacks on ports and vessels in the region, it intends to pivot its export strategy to focus primarily on supplying customers in Europe.
Market Reaction and Context
The stock's sharp upward move, climbing over 33.6%, stood in stark contrast to the broader UK market, where the FTSE 100 index traded slightly lower. This underscores that the surge was driven entirely by company-specific news rather than general market sentiment.
The market’s reaction reflects investor relief that immediate going-concern risks have been addressed by the fundraising, combined with renewed optimism about Ferrexpo's ability to resume its role as a key supplier to European steel mills.
