FactSet Stock Slides as Disappointing 2027 Outlook Eclipses Q4 Earnings Beat

Summary
Shares of the financial data provider fell after its full-year 2027 earnings and revenue guidance overshadowed a stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter report, raising concerns about future profitability.
FactSet Research Systems Inc. (FDS) shares fell in pre-market trading after the company's fiscal fourth-quarter results were accompanied by a fiscal 2027 outlook that failed to meet analyst expectations. The weaker-than-anticipated forecast overshadowed an otherwise solid quarterly performance, shifting investor focus to concerns about future growth and margin pressure.
Guidance Weighs on Investor Sentiment
For its fiscal year 2027, FactSet issued guidance that largely disappointed Wall Street. The company projects full-year earnings per share (EPS) in a range of $19.25 to $19.65, below the analyst consensus of $19.72.
Revenue guidance for the upcoming year was set between $2.60 billion and $2.63 billion. This forecast was mixed relative to the Street's expectation of $2.62 billion, providing little to offset the weaker earnings outlook.
A Strong Quarter Undermined
Despite the downbeat forecast, FactSet's fourth-quarter results surpassed estimates. The company reported:
Ad- Adjusted EPS: $4.52, beating the consensus forecast of $4.35.
- Revenue: $635.5 million, edging past the $629.7 million analysts had projected.
Growth was supported by a 7.0% increase in organic annual subscription value (ASV). The company also noted that ASV from its AI solutions more than doubled year-over-year. However, the adjusted operating margin contracted to 33.0% from 33.8% in the same period last year, signaling that higher investment spending may be compressing profitability.
Market Reaction
Shares of FactSet fell 2.1% in pre-open trading, according to Investing.com. The stock's initial positive reaction to the headline earnings beat quickly reversed as traders and analysts digested the forward-looking numbers.
Investor sentiment was already cautious heading into the report, with a consensus "Hold" rating on the stock. This defensive positioning left little room for a weak outlook, and the combination of a below-consensus earnings forecast and shrinking margins prompted the sell-off.
