Evommune Shares Plunge 27% After Atopic Dermatitis Drug Fails Mid-Stage Trial

Shares of Evommune Inc. (NYSE:EVMN) plummeted 27% in after-hours trading on Tuesday after the company announced its experimental drug for atopic dermatitis, EVO756, failed to meet the primary and secondary goals of a key clinical trial.
Trial Fails to Meet Endpoints
Evommune reported that the Phase 2b trial of EVO756, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, did not achieve its primary endpoint. The trial, which enrolled 121 adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, aimed to show a significant percentage change in the Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) score from baseline after 12 weeks of treatment.
According to the company's statement, this goal was not met across any of the studied doses. As a direct result of these findings, Evommune confirmed it will not advance the development of EVO756 for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. The company did note that the oral drug was generally well-tolerated, with a safety profile consistent with previous studies.
Strategic Pivot and Pipeline Outlook
Despite the setback, Evommune is shifting its focus within its atopic dermatitis program. The company will now advance EVO301, an IL-18BP fusion protein, as its lead candidate for the condition. This decision follows positive proof-of-concept data from a prior Phase 2a study. A new Phase 2b trial for EVO301 is planned for mid-2027.
AdFurthermore, the company is not completely abandoning EVO756. Development will continue for a different indication, with a Phase 2b study for EVO756 in migraine prophylaxis set to proceed.
Market Reaction and Company Position
The negative trial results triggered an immediate sell-off by investors, erasing more than a quarter of the company's market value in after-hours trading. In a statement, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Eugene Bauer expressed disappointment, noting "the need for new treatment options for patients suffering from AD."
Addressing the company's financial stability, President and CEO Luis Peña stated that Evommune maintains a strong balance sheet. He affirmed that the company's cash reserves are sufficient to support operations into 2029, allowing it to continue advancing its broader portfolio of programs for chronic inflammatory diseases.
