Eneos Subsidiary to Acquire Additional Stake in Papua LNG Project from TotalEnergies

Eneos Xplora, a subsidiary of Japanese energy giant Eneos Holdings, has agreed to acquire an additional stake in the Papua LNG project from France's TotalEnergies, deepening its involvement in the major natural gas development. The move highlights the ongoing strategic efforts by Japanese firms to secure long-term energy supplies for Asian markets.
Transaction Details
In an announcement Tuesday, Eneos Xplora confirmed it had signed an agreement with TotalEnergies to purchase an additional 0.49% participating interest in the project. The company stated that the completion of the transaction is contingent upon a final investment decision (FID) for the Papua LNG project and the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals.
Strategic Importance
According to Eneos, the acquisition is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its business foundation in Papua New Guinea. The investment is seen as a key step toward ensuring a stable and reliable supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Japan and other nations across Asia, a region heavily reliant on LNG imports for its energy needs.
