EMCD Launches Up to $30M Support Program for Bitcoin Miners Amid Profitability Crisis

Background

Crypto-fintech platform EMCD has launched a Miner Support Program offering up to $30 million in financing and other benefits to Bitcoin miners. The initiative is a direct response to a severe profitability squeeze across the industry, marked by historically low revenues and significant operational shutdowns.

Industry Faces Severe Profit Squeeze

The program arrives at a critical time for the mining sector. According to Q1 2026 data from CoinShares, Bitcoin's hashprice—a key metric for mining revenue per unit of computing power—has fallen to approximately $28 per petahash per day. This represents a 50% drop from its October 2025 peak and an all-time low for the post-halving period.

The depressed revenue environment has forced many operators to halt operations. Data from Hashrate Index cited in an April 2026 report indicates that an estimated 252 EH/s of computing power has been taken offline. Further signaling broad capitulation, the Bitcoin network recently recorded three consecutive negative difficulty adjustments, the first such streak since July 2022.

Program Details and Structure

EMCD's program is designed to provide miners with immediate financial relief and operational advantages. The firm, which has operated a mining pool since 2017, stated the support is a toolkit built around the specific needs of mining businesses.

Key components of the program include:

  • Low-Cost Financing: Access to secured liquidity facilities at 3.9% APR to help cover operational costs without forcing the sale of digital assets.
  • Fee Relief: Eligible miners can apply for zero pool commission for a period of 60 days.
  • Partner Discounts: Preferential pricing on Vnish ASIC optimization firmware, as well as special terms on equipment and data center services through EMCD's partner network.

EMCD clarified that the $30 million figure represents the maximum aggregate value of all support, including financing and partner offers, and does not constitute a reserved fund.

Strategic Outlook

"The operators who survive aren’t the ones who wait out the downturns. They’re the ones who use them," said Michael Jerlis, Founder and CEO of EMCD, in a statement. "This program is our commitment to making sure our miners have the tools to do exactly that."

EMCD, which ranks among the world's top ten mining pools and processed over 4,550 BTC for its users in 2025, is also inviting hardware manufacturers and hosting providers to join the program by offering exclusive terms to its network of miners.
