Background

Digital asset investment firm and market maker DWF Labs has obtained a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission (BVI FSC). The approval, announced on September 3, 2026, marks a significant step in the company's strategy to expand its regulated operations globally.

Scope of the Approval

The license was granted under the BVI’s Virtual Assets Service Providers Act of 2022. It authorizes a DWF Labs group entity to conduct several regulated activities, directly impacting its institutional client offerings.

Under the new approval, DWF Labs can provide:

  • The exchange of one or more forms of virtual assets.
  • Integrated over-the-counter (OTC) and market-making services, including spot trading.
  • Financial services related to an issuer’s offer or sale of a virtual asset.

This development strengthens the firm's ability to deliver investment and incubation services for digital asset projects within a regulated framework.

The move positions DWF Labs within a jurisdiction that has become a significant center for decentralized ledger technology and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs). According to data cited in the announcement, the British Virgin Islands is a key player in the digital asset market.

Key figures highlight the territory's importance:

  • It represents nearly 10% of the global market for tokenized U.S. treasuries, with $1.5 billion in distributed value.
  • BVI-domiciled entities facilitate over $1.2 billion in active, circulating stablecoins.

Executive Commentary

Heng Lee, Managing Director and Partner at DWF Labs, described the approval as a crucial move for the company. “The Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) approval from the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission (BVI FSC) is a key step in responsibly expanding and delivering DWF Labs’ regulated digital asset services to international institutional clients,” Lee stated.

He added that as the digital asset market matures, the new regulatory status will enable the firm to offer a broader range of solutions while reinforcing its commitment to transparency and governance. DWF Labs plans to continue seeking regulatory approvals in other key global markets.
