Ad- Worst Performers: The session's sharpest losses were seen in Prosus (AS:PRX), which fell 4.75%. It was followed by BE Semiconductor Industries NV (AS:BESI), down 4.53%, and specialty chemicals distributor IMCD NV (AS:IMCD), which lost 4.38%.
- Best Performers: A few stocks bucked the downward trend, led by energy giant Shell PLC (AS:SHEL), which gained 2.12%. Other notable gainers included Warehouses de Pauw (EBR:WDPP), up 1.63%, and telecommunications firm Koninklijke KPN NV (AS:KPN), which rose 1.51%.
Commodities and Currencies
In the broader markets, energy prices posted strong gains, likely contributing to Shell's outperformance. Crude oil for August delivery surged 3.90% to $82.03 a barrel, while the international benchmark Brent oil for September delivery climbed 3.67% to $87.32 a barrel.
Gold futures also advanced, with the August contract rising 0.70% to trade at $4,020.10 a troy ounce. In foreign exchange, major currency pairs saw little movement, with the EUR/USD and EUR/GBP pairs largely unchanged. The US Dollar Index Futures edged up a slight 0.03% to 100.60.
