COLCAP Edges Lower as Financials and Utilities Drag on Colombian Stocks

Colombia's benchmark COLCAP index edged slightly lower at the close of trading on Monday, finishing the session down 0.06%. The marginal decline was driven by sector-specific weakness, particularly in financial, investment, and public services stocks, according to market data.
Sector Performance
The day's trading revealed a divergent picture across the Colombian market. The primary drag on the index came from significant losses in a few key companies, offsetting gains elsewhere.
- The session's worst performers included telecommunications firm Etb (BVC:ETB), which fell 5.51%, and utility company Celsia SA (BVC:CELSIA), which declined 4.38%.
- Grupo Cibest SA (BVC:CIBEST) also saw a notable drop, ending the day down 3.50%.
On the other hand, strength in the materials and mining sectors provided support. Among the top gainers were Mineros SA (BVC:MINEROS), which rose 1.90%, and Cementos Argos Pf (BVC:PFCEMARGOS), which added 1.15%.
AdBroader Market Context
In global commodity markets, prices relevant to the Colombian economy were mixed. US coffee futures for December delivery rose 1.24%, while December gold futures fell 1.56%.
In foreign exchange, the Colombian peso held steady against the U.S. dollar, with the USD/COP pair down a negligible 0.02% to 3,114.31. This relative stability came even as the broader US Dollar Index Futures contract advanced 0.36%, indicating strength in the greenback against other major currencies.
