CoinMarketCap Secures SOC Attestations, Bolstering Credentials for Institutional Clients

CoinMarketCap, a leading provider of cryptocurrency market data, has secured both SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 1 attestation reports, according to a company announcement on August 26, 2026. The move signals a significant step in reinforcing the security and reliability of its systems, a critical factor for its growing base of enterprise and institutional clients.
A Focus on Verified Security
The independent examinations provide formal verification of the company's internal controls. The certifications include:
- SOC 2 Type 1: This report assesses the design and implementation of CoinMarketCap's controls against the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA) Trust Services Criteria for Security.
- SOC 1 Type 1: This report covers controls relevant to internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
These attestations are often a prerequisite for technology vendors serving institutional clients, whose own compliance and procurement functions require independently verified security frameworks. The Type 1 reports reflect the state of controls on a specific date and are available to partners upon request.
Significance for the Crypto Ecosystem
As a foundational data source for wallets, trading interfaces, and research tools, CoinMarketCap's reliability is crucial for the broader crypto infrastructure. The formal attestations are designed to shift the conversation from claimed security to demonstrated security, providing partners with standardized, third-party validation.
Ad"Trust in that data should be demonstrated rather than claimed," said Rush, CEO of CoinMarketCap. "Independent assessors have examined how we run security and privacy, and documented it in a form our partners and clients can review."
Building on Existing Certifications
These new reports add to a compliance framework the company has been building over time. In June 2026, CoinMarketCap obtained dual certifications from the British Standards Institution:
- ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for information security management.
- ISO/IEC 27701:2019 for privacy information management, which is designed to align with global regulations like GDPR.
The combined scope of these assessments covers the company's core operations, including its price tracking data, APIs, cloud systems, and the handling of user information on its web and mobile applications.
