Cognition and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a multi-year Strategic Collaboration Agreement to facilitate the deployment of Devin, Cognition's autonomous AI software engineer, in production environments for enterprise customers.
Strategic Collaboration Details
The partnership is designed to help joint customers migrate legacy workloads to the AWS cloud, as well as address security vulnerabilities and engineering backlogs. Under the agreement, companies can purchase Devin through the AWS Marketplace and utilize the Agent Toolkit for AWS directly within the AI tool.
According to the announcement, the collaboration will focus on modernization projects where Devin can analyze existing systems, replicate their behavior, write new code, and conduct testing. Key early adopters mentioned as joint customers include Mercedes-Benz, Echo Global Logistics, and ActiveCampaign.
Early Use Case Success
Cognition highlighted significant efficiency gains from early projects. In one case, Mercedes-Benz reportedly used Devin to analyze over 200,000 lines of COBOL, reducing a modernization project estimated to take eight months down to just eight days.
AdAnother unnamed global automaker leveraged Devin to migrate a 25,000-line COBOL workflow from a mainframe system to AWS Lambda, achieving an estimated 73% reduction in cost. These examples underscore the partnership's focus on tackling complex, time-consuming enterprise IT challenges.
Security and Integration
Devin is designed to handle execution tasks like writing, testing, and debugging code, while human engineers oversee the strategy and review the final output. For security, customers deploy Devin in a single-tenant environment on an AWS region of their choice, ensuring that their data and proprietary code remain within a dedicated Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).
"Our customers want to modernize faster and put AI to work in production, and Devin running on AWS gives them a proven way to do it," said Anasuya Strasner, Director of North America ISVs at AWS. The companies stated they are also exploring deeper engineering integrations to streamline Devin's use within existing AWS environments.
