COFCO Joycome Shares Surge as Fresh Pork Unit Achieves First-Ever Profit

Shares of COFCO Joycome (01610.HK), a leading Chinese pork producer, surged more than 7% in early trading in Hong Kong after its fresh pork business achieved profitability for the first time. The stock's advance is also supported by a broader recovery in Chinese hog prices, signaling improving market fundamentals.
As of the latest report, the stock was trading up 5.91% at HK$1.255, with a turnover of HK$35.80 million.
First-Half Turnaround
A key driver for the stock's performance is the company's strong results for the first half of 2026, detailed in a research report by Guoyuan International. The firm's fresh pork business posted a profit of 24.42 million yuan, a significant turnaround representing a 28.71 million yuan improvement from the loss recorded in the same period last year.
This milestone was underpinned by robust sales growth and a strategic focus on higher-value branded products. Key operational highlights from the first half include:
Ad- Fresh pork sales volume rose 31.0% year-over-year to 197,000 tons.
- Branded boxed pork sales grew 35.1% to 37.55 million boxes.
- The revenue contribution from branded products increased to 34.7% of the fresh pork business, a 3.5 percentage point gain from the previous year.
Market Context: Rebounding Hog Prices
COFCO Joycome's improved profitability coincides with a favorable shift in the Chinese pork market. According to data cited by Zhitong Finance, the national average price for live hogs reached 11.06 yuan per kilogram as of September 4, climbing nearly 17% from a low of 9.47 yuan/kg in late June.
An analysis from Huayuan Securities attributed the price recovery to an easing of supply-side pressure and a concurrent improvement in consumer demand. The brokerage expects this dynamic to provide continued support for hog prices in the near term, creating a positive operating environment for producers.
