Background

BTSE Group, a global digital asset trading and technology firm, has officially launched a regulated cryptocurrency exchange in Indonesia through a joint venture with PT Aset Kripto Internasional. The move marks a significant expansion for the company into one of Southeast Asia's most promising digital asset markets.

Strategic Partnership and Launch

The new entity, BTSE Indonesia, was established following the successful rebranding of NVX, an existing regulated Indonesian digital asset platform. Under the joint venture, BTSE Group will provide the core trading infrastructure, technology, and liquidity for the exchange.

Meanwhile, its local partner will manage user acquisition, marketing, and regional partnerships. "Indonesia has everything it takes to be Asia’s next major crypto hub," said Jeff Mei, Chief Operating Officer of BTSE Group, in a statement. "What it needs now is the right combination of global infrastructure and local expertise. That’s exactly what this joint venture delivers."

Regulatory Standing and Services

BTSE Indonesia has secured a license from the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan/OJK). It is authorized to operate as a regulated Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Assets Trading Operator (PAKD), a key designation for building trust and ensuring compliance in the local market.

This regulatory approval allows BTSE Indonesia to offer crucial services for local investors, including:

  • Full integration with local Indonesian banks.
  • Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) deposit, withdrawal, and conversion services.
  • IDR-denominated trading pairs for over 200+ digital assets.
  • A framework for potentially introducing new products, such as futures trading, in line with local regulations.

Market Impact and Context

The launch positions BTSE Indonesia as one of the few fully licensed entities able to facilitate crypto trading in the country, which enhances customer asset protection and compliance with anti-money laundering regulations. BTSE Group's global exchange reports a monthly trading volume of over $30 billion across more than 350 cryptocurrencies.

"With our deep local expertise and the support of a global exchange powerhouse, BTSE Indonesia is uniquely positioned to deliver a trading platform that is secure, competitive, and fully compliant with local regulations," said Stephanie Kusnadi, Chief Strategy Officer of BTSE Indonesia.
