Braze Shares Plunge Over 19% as Weak Profit Guidance Overshadows Q2 Beat

Braze Inc. (BRZE) shares tumbled more than 19% in trading despite the company reporting second-quarter revenue and earnings that surpassed analyst expectations. The sharp sell-off was driven by a third-quarter profit forecast that fell short of consensus, fueling investor concerns that increased spending could delay profitability.
Strong Quarter Undermined by Outlook
For the second quarter, Braze posted strong results that pointed to solid enterprise demand. According to its Sep 8, 2026 earnings release, the company reported:
- Revenue: $227.2 million, a 26.2% year-over-year increase that beat the $220.23 million consensus estimate.
- Adjusted Earnings Per Share (EPS): $0.19, exceeding the expected $0.15.
- Free Cash Flow: Positive at $22 million.
Operationally, the company's number of large customers—those spending over $500,000 annually—grew by 28% year-over-year to 361. Braze also reported a dollar-based net retention rate of 110%, indicating existing customers are increasing their spending.
Guidance Signals Rising Costs
AdDespite the strong Q2 performance, the company's guidance for the upcoming quarter spooked the market. While Braze raised its full-year fiscal 2027 revenue forecast to between $910 million and $913 million, its near-term profit outlook was weaker than anticipated.
For the third quarter, Braze guided for an adjusted EPS of $0.13 to $0.14, which is below the analyst consensus of $0.16. Management attributed the expected margin pressure to investments in new sales capacity and costs related to its annual Forge conference, raising questions about the timing of future operating leverage.
Market Focus Shifts to Profitability
The market reaction suggests investors are shifting their focus from top-line growth to the company's path to sustained profitability. While revenue growth remains robust, it has decelerated from 30% in the first quarter to 26.2% in the second. The key debate for investors now centers on whether Braze's investments in AI and sales will generate sufficient returns to justify the near-term margin compression.
Analysts remain divided on the stock's trajectory, with price targets reportedly ranging from $32 to $50. This wide dispersion reflects the current uncertainty surrounding the durability of its growth and the timing of margin expansion.
