Background

Bitcoin gained on Thursday, rising 1.9% to trade at $63,352.8 as of 17:09 ET, according to Investing.com data. The rally was fueled by a broader improvement in market risk sentiment after U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran had contacted Washington to "make a deal," easing fears of a wider military conflict in the Middle East.

Market Reaction to Geopolitical Shift

The move marked a reversal from the previous session, where the cryptocurrency fell nearly 2% after Trump had declared a ceasefire with Iran "over." The de-escalation in rhetoric followed a series of U.S. military strikes on approximately 170 targets in Iran. The renewed hope for a diplomatic resolution caused oil prices, which had recently hit three-week highs, to decline.

"The token is now approximately 9% above June’s monthly close, extending a recovery that has held up remarkably well given the geopolitical backdrop," said Iliya Kalchev, an analyst at Nexo Dispatch, in comments cited by Investing.com. Kalchev noted that crypto assets rallied from oversold levels rather than extending losses, a behavioral shift from the second quarter.

Analysis of market data suggests the current price recovery is being driven by spot demand rather than speculative leverage. According to Kalchev, several indicators point to a more sustainable rally:

  • Futures Open Interest: Bitcoin futures open interest has declined to around $30 billion, according to data from Glassnode, suggesting traders are hesitant to add leveraged positions in a volatile environment.
  • Implied Volatility: The 30-day implied volatility index has fallen, indicating market expectations for calmer conditions ahead.
  • Exchange Supply: A key structural signal shows the supply of Bitcoin on centralized exchanges has dropped to its lowest level since 2017, at roughly 6.6% of the circulating supply. Historically, sustained declines in exchange balances have preceded bull markets by reducing available selling pressure.

Broader Market Context

Investors were also processing minutes from the Federal Reserve's June meeting, which showed a divided committee on the path of interest rates. While a few participants argued for an immediate rate hike, the overall tone was seen by some analysts as less hawkish than feared. Most major altcoins followed Bitcoin higher, with Ethereum, XRP, and Solana all posting modest gains.
