Bitcoin Surpasses $63,000 as Easing Geopolitical Tensions Boost Risk Appetite

Bitcoin's price rallied on Thursday, climbing nearly 2% to surpass the $63,000 level as an apparent de-escalation in U.S.-Iran tensions improved broader market risk sentiment and weighed on oil prices.
The leading cryptocurrency was last trading at $63,352.8, a 1.9% increase, according to data from Investing.com. The move reverses losses from the previous session, which were triggered by escalating conflict between Washington and Tehran.
Geopolitical Relief Drives Market Rebound
The shift in market sentiment followed comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that Iran had contacted Washington and wanted to "make a deal so badly." This came after the U.S. launched retaliatory strikes against Iranian targets, initially causing a flight from riskier assets.
The apparent step back from a wider conflict caused oil prices to decline from three-week highs, providing a tailwind for assets like cryptocurrencies. The rebound marks a notable shift from behavior seen earlier in the quarter, where macroeconomic shocks typically drove capital out of the sector.
On-Chain Data Signals Underlying Strength
Market analysts highlighted that the rally appears to be driven by fundamental demand rather than speculative leverage. "The move higher is being driven by spot demand rather than leverage," noted Iliya Kalchev, an analyst at Nexo Dispatch, citing a decline in Bitcoin futures open interest to around $30 billion, according to data from Glassnode.
AdKalchev also pointed to a key structural signal for the market:
- The supply of Bitcoin held on centralized exchanges has fallen to its lowest point since 2017, representing roughly 6.6% of the circulating supply.
- Historically, such sustained drawdowns in exchange balances have often preceded longer-term bull markets, as it suggests less available supply for immediate selling pressure.
Broader Market Context
Investors also digested the minutes from the Federal Reserve's June meeting. The summary was interpreted as "less hawkish than markets feared," according to Nexo Dispatch, despite a decidedly hawkish tilt in the Fed's official projections due to inflation concerns.
The positive sentiment extended across the digital asset space. Other major cryptocurrencies followed Bitcoin higher, with Ethereum adding 0.6% to trade at $1,749.50 and XRP climbing 0.6%.
