Bitcoin Reclaims $60,000 After 14% Quarterly Decline

Bitcoin rose above the $60,000 mark on Wednesday, staging a partial recovery a day after closing out a difficult quarter marked by a 14% price decline. The rebound follows a period of intense selling pressure driven by macroeconomic concerns and significant outflows from U.S. spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
A Volatile Session
The world's largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization gained nearly 4% to trade at $60,807.4 late Wednesday, according to data from Investing.com. The upward move came after the token briefly touched a 22-month low of $57,803.0 earlier in the session.
Despite the daily gain, the price action concludes a challenging period for the asset class. The 14% loss in the June quarter contributed to a year-to-date decline of 32%. The cryptocurrency remains more than 50% below its record high, reflecting persistent bearish sentiment among investors.
Record ETF Outflows and Rate Jitters
A primary driver of the recent downturn has been sustained selling from institutional investment vehicles. According to data from SoSoValue, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded their largest monthly outflows since their inception, with investors pulling a net $4.5 billion in June.
AdThis institutional caution is compounded by a hawkish outlook from the U.S. Federal Reserve. Market expectations for higher interest rates tend to diminish the appeal of non-yielding assets like Bitcoin. Analysts also point to a broader market rotation into high-performing artificial intelligence stocks as a factor diverting capital away from the digital asset space.
Analysts Adjust Price Targets
Reflecting the market headwinds, analysts at Citi on Tuesday cut their 12-month price target for Bitcoin to $82,000 from a previous forecast of $112,000. The bank cited weakening investor demand, the negative ETF flows, and stalled U.S. crypto legislation as key concerns.
Other major cryptocurrencies also saw a slight recovery on Wednesday, tracking Bitcoin's gains. Ether rose 3.8% to $1,631.29, while Solana and Cardano posted stronger gains of 6.8% and 9.2%, respectively.
