Bitcoin Rebounds Toward $64,000 Amid AI Sector Shock and US Crypto Bill Doubts

Bitcoin rebounded toward the $64,000 level in weekend trading, recovering from a slide driven by a disruptive new artificial intelligence model and waning optimism for the passage of comprehensive crypto legislation in the U.S.
As of 05:08 ET (09:08 GMT), Bitcoin was trading at $63,972.7, up about 1.57% from its previous close, according to Investing.com data. The price action followed a dip that saw the asset move between $62,505 and $64,287, after having approached $65,000 earlier in the week following softer U.S. inflation data.
Headwinds from AI and Washington
Recent downward pressure on Bitcoin was linked to developments in the technology sector and U.S. politics, which have dampened broader risk appetite among investors.
AI Model Challenges Tech Valuations
The release of Kimi K3, a new open-weight AI model from Beijing-based Moonshot AI, has unsettled technology and semiconductor stocks. According to a CoinDesk report, Kimi K3 outperformed leading models from Anthropic and OpenAI on a key coding benchmark. The prospect of a powerful, publicly available model challenges the narrative that high-end AI capabilities will remain scarce and expensive.
This development impacts the crypto space in two ways:
Ad- Bitcoin has recently traded with a strengthening correlation to semiconductor shares, tying its performance more closely to the AI investment cycle.
- Some publicly listed Bitcoin miners have diversified into providing high-performance computing infrastructure for AI, a business model that could be threatened by cheaper, more efficient models reducing demand for expensive data-center capacity.
Legislative Uncertainty Grows
Regulatory headwinds are also a factor, as the probability of the CLARITY Act becoming law by December 31 has fallen to a record-low 32% on the prediction market Polymarket. This is a significant drop from a peak of 82% in February.
The bill, which would establish a clear regulatory framework by dividing oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has reportedly stalled in the Senate amid disagreements over ethics provisions.
Broader Crypto Market
Most major alternative cryptocurrencies, or altcoins, posted modest gains amid thin Saturday trading. Ether (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, was up 0.65%, while Cardano (ADA) saw a more significant gain of 3.31%. Other major tokens like BNB and Solana (SOL) also traded slightly higher.
