Bitcoin Rebounds Above $64,000 as Tech Rally Boosts Risk Appetite

Bitcoin's price recovered to trade above $64,000 on Friday, positioning the cryptocurrency for a weekly gain. The rebound was largely driven by a broader rally in risk assets, particularly technology stocks, as geopolitical tensions appeared to ease.
By 18:00 ET (22:00 GMT), the world's largest cryptocurrency was up 1.2% to $64,005.7, having reached an intraday high of $64,673.1, according to data from Investing.com. The token is on track for a weekly rise of over 2%, reversing losses from earlier in the week.
Market Drivers
The cryptocurrency's recovery tracked a strong performance on Wall Street, where the tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite index led a broad market rally. This move signaled renewed investor appetite for higher-growth, higher-risk assets, a category that often includes digital assets like Bitcoin.
Market sentiment also improved following reports of de-escalation in military tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which had previously prompted a flight to traditional safe-haven assets. Analysts note that Bitcoin continues to trade largely as a high-beta risk asset, moving in tandem with equities during periods of improving market confidence. Market participants also continue to monitor inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, which remain a key driver of institutional demand.
Altcoin Performance Remains Mixed
AdWhile Bitcoin pushed higher, performance across the broader cryptocurrency market was varied, with major altcoins posting a mixed weekly performance.
- Ethereum (ETH): The second-largest cryptocurrency rose 2.7% to $1,795.14, securing a 2.1% gain for the week.
- XRP: Gained 0.8% on the day but was down 2% for the week.
- Solana (SOL) and Cardano (ADA): Underperformed, ending the week with losses of 5.2% and 6.6%, respectively.
- Dogecoin (DOGE): Added 1.5% on Friday but finished the week down 4.5%.
Circle Secures Key US Banking Charter
In a significant industry development, stablecoin issuer Circle Internet Financial received final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to operate a national trust bank. The news sent shares of Circle (CRCL) up 5%.
The federal charter permits the company behind the USDC stablecoin to serve as a custodian for its own reserves and hold cryptocurrency assets for institutional clients. CEO Jeremy Allaire called the approval "a defining step in bringing blockchain technology and digital assets into the core of the U.S. financial system."
