Bitcoin Nears $80,000 as Corporate Buying and U.S. Crypto Bill Advance

Bitcoin traded near $80,000 on Sunday, buoyed by persistent corporate demand and developments in U.S. regulatory policy. The leading cryptocurrency has rebounded strongly from an August low of approximately $63,000, though it remains down about 9% for the year, according to a report from Investing.com.
Corporate Demand Remains a Key Driver
Corporate accumulation continues to provide a significant support level for the market, led by enterprise software firm MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR). The company has been a major buyer in the market, recently adding 4,603 bitcoin to its holdings.
According to the report, MicroStrategy's latest purchase was funded with $369.7 million in proceeds from common-stock sales conducted between Aug. 24 and Aug. 30. This brings the company's total holdings to 845,050 BTC as of Aug. 30. The firm has issued $20.9 billion in equity this year, positioning it among the largest U.S. equity issuers.
U.S. Regulatory Clarity in Focus
Investors are also closely watching progress on the CLARITY Act, a legislative proposal aimed at establishing a federal market structure for digital assets. The bill would divide regulatory oversight between the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
AdThe U.S. Senate is scheduled for a procedural cloture vote on the act on Sept. 15, a key step toward formal consideration. The move follows the bill's passage in the House last year and a recent White House meeting with executives from major crypto and financial firms, prompting Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse to state that U.S. crypto leadership is "within reach."
Market Context and Volatility
While the combination of institutional buying and potential regulatory clarity provides a constructive long-term backdrop, Bitcoin's price action remains volatile. Data cited by Bitwise Europe illustrates this point, showing that the cryptocurrency's gains are often concentrated in a small number of trading days.
For 2026, removing the five strongest trading sessions would transform Bitcoin's roughly 9% year-to-date decline into a much steeper loss of about 36%. This highlights the significant impact of large price swings on overall performance. Broader cryptocurrency markets were mostly positive Sunday, with Ether (ETH) rising 1.81% to $2,503.04 and XRP gaining 0.99% to $1.4215.
