Bitcoin Holds Near $86,000 as Spot ETF Inflows Surge Past $1.7 Billion This Week

Summary
Bitcoin is trading near an eight-month high, supported by a sharp increase in capital flowing into spot ETFs, which have seen $1.71 billion in net inflows this week. Investors are also monitoring regulatory developments and a high-level U.S.-China summit.
Bitcoin held steady near an eight-month high on Wednesday, supported by a significant surge in capital flowing into spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The world's largest cryptocurrency traded at $85,811.4, after briefly touching levels above $87,000 earlier in the session.
ETF Inflows Signal Renewed Institutional Demand
A primary driver for the recent price strength is a sharp increase in inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs. This week has seen a cumulative net inflow of $1.71 billion, marking the strongest weekly performance since late August, according to data from the platform SoSoValue.
Monday alone recorded nearly $1 billion in inflows, the highest single-day figure this year. This trend suggests a robust return of institutional investor confidence. Adding to the bullish sentiment, corporate crypto holder MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) also disclosed another purchase of Bitcoin earlier this week.
Regulatory Landscape and Altcoin Performance
The renewed market optimism comes despite the failure of the anticipated "Clarity Act" to pass through the U.S. Congress in early September. However, the regulatory outlook was buoyed by a separate development from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which announced an exemption policy allowing for the issuance of tokenized stocks on blockchains.
AdCrypto proponents view this SEC move as a key step toward integrating digital assets with traditional finance, and it has particularly benefited altcoins. While Ether (ETH) traded slightly down at $2,736.19, XRP saw a notable 4% gain. Other major tokens also saw gains, including Solana (SOL) up 0.4% and Cardano (ADA) rising 3.4%.
Market Awaits US-China Summit
While crypto-specific factors are in focus, investors are also monitoring broader geopolitical events. A high-stakes summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and China's top leader is scheduled to take place in Washington later on Wednesday.
Although the summit's agenda is centered on artificial intelligence and trade, any significant outcomes could affect global market sentiment. A major shift in risk appetite could indirectly spill over into the highly correlated cryptocurrency market.
