Bitcoin Holds Near $80,000 as Traders Await Fed Chair's Jackson Hole Speech

Bitcoin held steady near the $80,000 level in early trading on Friday, with market participants showing caution ahead of a pivotal speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium.
Market Awaits Fed Policy Cues
The cryptocurrency market is closely watching for the Fed Chair's address for any new indications on the central bank's future interest rate policy. According to a report from Investing.com, Warsh has remained largely non-committal on the Fed's plans but has signaled a commitment to its 2% annual inflation target.
The speech follows recent data showing the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, remained well above the target in July. This has led some market participants to increase bets on a future rate hike. A more hawkish monetary policy stance is typically seen as a headwind for speculative assets like cryptocurrencies.
Recent Performance and Market Drivers
As of 02:12 ET, Bitcoin was trading up 1.3% at $79,882.3, remaining in sight of a three-month high of over $81,000 hit earlier in the week, the source noted. The asset was on track to close the week with a gain of approximately 2%.
AdBitcoin's recent strength has been supported by several factors, including optimism over U.S. regulatory progress and a U.S. Treasury announcement to double its bond buybacks, which has reportedly spurred flows into alternative assets. A broader rally in technology stocks also provided positive momentum. However, persistent geopolitical uncertainty and concerns over rising interest rates have limited overall risk appetite.
Altcoins Post Modest Gains
The broader cryptocurrency market saw modest gains, tracking Bitcoin's performance, though the prevailing caution ahead of the Fed's announcement capped upward momentum.
- Ether (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, rose 0.3% to $2,501.33.
- Solana (SOL) was a notable outperformer, jumping 6%.
- Other major tokens such as XRP and Dogecoin (DOGE) saw gains of 1.4%, while BNB added 1%.
