Bitcoin Holds Near $63,500 as Geopolitical Tensions, US Regulatory Outlook Weigh on Sentiment

Bitcoin edged higher on Monday but struggled to break out of a narrow trading range, as a combination of geopolitical tensions and looming U.S. regulatory discussions kept investors on the sidelines. The leading cryptocurrency was trading at $63,561.5, a modest increase of 0.8%, after shedding nearly 3% in the previous week, according to market data.
Geopolitical and Regulatory Headwinds
Investor appetite for speculative assets like cryptocurrencies has been dampened by a broader risk-averse mood in global markets. Heightened tensions from the U.S.-Iran standoff in the Strait of Hormuz have contributed to this caution, pushing capital towards safer havens.
Adding to the uncertainty, the crypto industry is bracing for key meetings in Washington this week. According to a report from Coindesk, President Donald Trump is expected to attend a meeting of the administration's innovation committee on Wednesday, which will include top crypto executives. This will be followed by a meeting at the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Thursday, where further crypto regulation is expected to be a topic of discussion.
ETF Outflows Signal Investor Caution
AdRecent fund flow data underscores the hesitant market sentiment. Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced substantial capital flight last week, with key takeaways including:
- A total of nearly $390 million in net outflows was recorded.
- This represents the most significant weekly outflow since early July, according to data from aggregator SoSoValue.
- The outflows coincided with last week's price decline, indicating a direct correlation between institutional sentiment and market performance.
Broader Crypto Market Recovers Slightly
While Bitcoin's gains were limited, the broader cryptocurrency market saw a minor rebound following last week's losses. Ether (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, rose 1.2% to trade at $1,903.0. Other major altcoins, including XRP, BNB, Solana, and Cardano, also posted slight gains.
