Background

Bitcoin held steady above the $64,000 mark on Saturday, maintaining its recovery from a dip earlier in the week. The price stability comes as investors assess significant regulatory developments in the United States and continued signs of institutional adoption.

As of 1:15 PM ET, Bitcoin was trading at $64,197.6, representing a daily gain of 0.60%, according to Investing.com data. The broader cryptocurrency market also saw modest gains, with Ethereum rising 1.9% to $1,821.15 and XRP gaining 1.1% to $1.1130.

U.S. Policy Shifts Bolster Crypto Sentiment

A key development supporting market sentiment is a new U.S. law that effectively bans the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC). The restriction, part of a housing bill that became law after President Donald Trump declined to sign or veto it, will remain in effect through the end of 2030.

This move is widely seen as a positive for the crypto industry, as it removes a potential government-backed competitor to privately issued stablecoins. The legislative development has, however, raised questions about the potential for political delays affecting other proposed legislation, such as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.

Institutional Adoption Gains Momentum

In another sign of the sector's integration with traditional finance, stablecoin issuer Circle received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a national trust bank. Circle is the company behind USDC, a major U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin.

The federal charter allows Circle to offer digital asset custody services under direct federal supervision. This approval underscores a growing trend of crypto-native firms obtaining federal banking licenses, which enhances their legitimacy and operational capabilities within the established financial system.

Analysts Temper Long-Term Price Expectations

Despite the positive fundamental news, some market analysts are advising a more measured outlook for Bitcoin's future price performance. While long-term forecasts still include ambitious targets, historical data from previous four-year halving cycles suggests diminishing returns as the asset matures.

According to the source, Bitcoin's cycle peak in 2017 was approximately 75 times its prior high, a figure that fell to 3.5 times in 2021 and 1.8 times in 2025. Factors such as growing institutional ownership, the adoption of spot Bitcoin ETFs, and a more developed derivatives market are contributing to a larger, more liquid asset class that may see more sustainable, but less explosive, growth.
