Bitcoin Holds Above $62,000 as U.S. Crypto Bill Gains Momentum

Bitcoin held above the key $62,000 threshold during weekend trading, with investor sentiment supported by renewed momentum for a major cryptocurrency bill in the United States. As of Sunday afternoon, the leading digital asset was trading at $62,686, down slightly by 0.60%, according to data from Investing.com.
Legislative Hopes Boost Sentiment
A significant driver for the market was the increased likelihood of the CLARITY Act becoming law. On the prediction market Polymarket, the probability of the bill's passage climbed above 50% following key endorsements from U.S. law enforcement organizations, the source material noted.
The bill, which is backed by over 200 industry firms including Coinbase, Ripple, and Kraken, aims to establish a clear regulatory framework for digital assets in the U.S. Proponents believe such legislation is critical for encouraging wider institutional adoption by providing much-needed legal and operational certainty.
Institutional Conviction vs. Market Risks
The theme of institutional adoption was further underscored by comments from MicroStrategy CEO Phong Le, who described Bitcoin as the "United States of money," citing its fixed supply and transparent policy. The company remains the largest corporate holder of the asset, with a reported 818,000 BTC on its balance sheet.
AdHowever, the market was also reminded of persistent security risks. A report from blockchain security firm Hexens revealed that a critical vulnerability was recently discovered and patched on the Aptos blockchain. The flaw could have potentially exposed infrastructure supporting up to $70 billion in digital assets, highlighting the ongoing threats within the ecosystem.
Meme Coin Losses Highlight Divergence
The divide between institutional-grade assets and highly speculative tokens was starkly illustrated by recent data on the TRUMP memecoin. Blockchain analytics firm Nansen estimated that holders of the token have accumulated combined losses of approximately $3.8 billion, with the token having fallen around 96% from its peak.
This performance contrasts sharply with Bitcoin, which is increasingly viewed by institutional investors as the sector's primary benchmark asset. Broader altcoin markets saw modest declines, with Ethereum down 0.2% to $1,775.44 and XRP falling 2.29% to $1.1359.
