Background

Bitcoin recovered to trade above $64,000 on Friday, positioning it for a weekly gain as a broader rally in technology shares improved market sentiment and encouraged a move into riskier assets.

By 18:00 ET (22:00 GMT), Bitcoin was trading at $64,005.7, a gain of 1.2% for the session, according to data from Investing.com. The cryptocurrency is on track for a weekly rise of more than 2%, reversing losses from earlier in the week.

Risk Appetite Returns

The rebound in crypto markets mirrored gains on Wall Street, where the tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite advanced nearly 2% for the week. Analysts note that Bitcoin continues to trade as a high-beta risk asset, often moving in tandem with equities during periods of positive market sentiment.

The recovery follows a period of volatility driven by escalating military tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which had initially prompted a flight to safe-haven assets. Market sentiment improved after reports that Iran had sought to resume negotiations, easing fears of a wider conflict and allowing risk appetite to return.

Circle Secures National Trust Bank Charter

In a significant industry development, Circle Internet Financial, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, received final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to operate a national trust bank. The news sent shares of the company up 5%.

The federal charter allows Circle to serve as a custodian for its own reserves and hold digital assets for institutional clients under direct OCC supervision. CEO Jeremy Allaire called the approval "a defining step in bringing blockchain technology and digital assets into the core of the U.S. financial system."
