Bitcoin Climbs Above $63,000 as Easing Geopolitical Tensions Boost Risk Appetite

Bitcoin's price rose on Thursday, crossing the $63,000 mark as an apparent de-escalation in U.S.-Iran tensions improved broader market risk sentiment. The move reversed a nearly 2% loss from the previous session, which was driven by fears of a widening conflict in the Middle East.
By 17:09 ET (21:09 GMT), Bitcoin was trading up 1.9% at $63,352.8, according to Investing.com data. The rally gained momentum after President Donald Trump stated that Iran had contacted Washington to "make a deal," which also contributed to a decline in oil prices from their three-week highs.
Market Resilience and On-Chain Signals
Analysts noted the market's resilience in the face of significant geopolitical volatility. The cryptocurrency initially sold off on headlines of military strikes but quickly recovered, a pattern that marks a change from the second quarter, when macro shocks typically led to sustained capital outflows.
"The resilience is notable: crypto sold off on the initial escalation headlines but rallied from oversold territory rather than extending losses -- a behavioral shift from the pattern that defined much of Q2," said Iliya Kalchev, an analyst at Nexo Dispatch, in a note.
Data from the derivatives market suggests the rally is being driven by spot demand rather than speculative leverage, which could indicate a more stable price foundation.
Ad- Bitcoin futures open interest has declined to around $30 billion, according to Glassnode, even as the price recovered.
- The 30-day implied volatility index has also fallen, pointing to market expectations of calmer trading conditions ahead.
- A key structural indicator shows the supply of Bitcoin on centralized exchanges has dropped to 6.6% of circulating supply, its lowest level since 2017. Historically, sustained declines in exchange balances have preceded bull markets as selling pressure is reduced.
Broader Market Context
Investors were also processing minutes from the Federal Reserve's June meeting, which showed a divided committee on the path for interest rates. While the FOMC's dot plot signaled a hawkish tilt amid inflation concerns, Nexo's Kalchev noted the minutes "struck a more divided and less hawkish tone than markets feared."
Other major cryptocurrencies also advanced in tandem with Bitcoin. Ethereum gained 0.6% to trade at $1,749.50, while XRP and Solana rose 0.6% and 1.2%, respectively.
