The company's Board Chair, Anne Louise Eberhard, stated that Stenvall was selected following a "comprehensive search." The decision was based on her extensive experience leading global life sciences businesses and her deep background in both pharmaceuticals and vaccines.
Stenvall brings a significant track record to the role, with more than 20 years of leadership experience at major pharmaceutical companies. Her career includes holding country, regional, and global positions at:

- AstraZeneca
- Pfizer

Strategic Focus and Transition
In a statement, Stenvall said she was "tremendously excited" to join the company, highlighting its scientific foundation and global manufacturing and commercial platforms. She outlined her initial focus on expanding the global reach of Bavarian Nordic's vaccines and strengthening its overall position in the global vaccine market.
Eberhard also thanked outgoing CEO Paul Chaplin for his years of service, crediting him with helping to transform Bavarian Nordic from a research-focused entity into a commercial-stage, global vaccines business.
