The advance was led by significant gains across the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary, and Consumer Staples sectors, according to closing data from the Sydney Stock Exchange. Despite the index's solid performance, market breadth was narrow, with 548 stocks rising while 545 declined and 359 finished unchanged.

Among the session's top performers on the S&P/ASX 200 were:

  • Lovisa Holdings Ltd (ASX:LOV), which surged 7.88%.
  • Temple & Webster Group Ltd (ASX:TPW), adding 7.81%.
  • CSL Ltd (ASX:CSL), which climbed 6.62%.

Commodities and Currencies

In commodity markets, energy prices posted strong gains. Crude oil futures for September delivery rose 3.86% to $82.32 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract climbed 3.34% to $84.82 a barrel. Gold futures were little changed, inching up 0.01%.

In currency markets, the Australian dollar was up 0.30% against the U.S. dollar to trade at 0.70. Meanwhile, the S&P/ASX 200 VIX, a measure of implied market volatility, rose 2.03% to 11.39, indicating a slight increase in investor caution despite the day's gains.
