Reflecting a calmer sentiment, the S&P/ASX 200 VIX, a measure of implied market volatility, fell by 2.12% to finish at 14.05.

Commodities and Currencies
In the commodities market, energy prices rallied while precious metals declined. Crude oil for October delivery rose 2.28% to $102.33 a barrel, and the November Brent contract gained 2.22% to $106.93 a barrel. In contrast, Gold Futures for December delivery fell 0.87%.
In foreign exchange, the Australian dollar was firmer against its U.S. counterpart, with the AUD/USD pair up 0.42% to 0.71. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, was up 0.31% at 99.14.
