Background

Australian equities ended Tuesday's trading session nearly flat, with the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index closing with a marginal gain of just 0.02%. The market experienced a tug-of-war as significant gains in the mining, gold, and information technology sectors were balanced by weakness elsewhere.
