Background

The Athens General Composite index finished Thursday's trading session with a slight gain, closing up 0.19%. The modest advance was primarily driven by positive performance in key sectors, even as the broader market sentiment appeared mixed.

Market Performance

Strength in the Banking, Construction, and Travel sectors provided the main impetus for the benchmark's rise, according to data from the Athens Stock Exchange. However, market breadth was negative, indicating that the gains were not widespread. Declining stocks outnumbered advancers by a margin of 60 to 56, with 16 stocks ending the session unchanged.

This divergence suggests that the index's overall gain was supported by heavyweight constituents while a majority of smaller companies faced selling pressure.
