Asian Stocks Advance as Easing Oil Prices Improve Risk Sentiment

Asian stocks climbed on Tuesday, with technology shares leading the gains, as a retreat in oil prices improved investor risk appetite. The positive sentiment comes as markets look ahead to a crucial week of earnings from major U.S. technology companies.
U.S. stock futures pointed to a stronger open, particularly for the tech-heavy Nasdaq, after a modestly lower session on Wall Street overnight, according to Investing.com data.
Tech Rebound Lifts Japan and South Korea
Regional technology stocks saw significant buying interest, driving major indexes higher.
- South Korea's KOSPI surged nearly 4%, recovering from a sharp sell-off in the previous session. Shares of Samsung Electronics (KS:005930) jumped over 6%, while SK Hynix Inc (KS:000660) climbed 4.5%.
- Japan's Nikkei 225 advanced more than 2% as markets reopened after a holiday, while the broader TOPIX index gained 1.8%.
Elsewhere, Chinese markets also posted gains, with the blue-chip Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 index rising 1.7%. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was a regional outlier, edging down 0.2%.
Oil Prices and Geopolitical Factors
AdThe improved market mood was partly linked to a slight easing in crude oil prices. The pullback followed reports that mediators presented Iran with a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire to help revive negotiations with the United States, according to Investing.com.
However, the decline in oil was limited as geopolitical risks in the Middle East remain elevated. Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis stated they would impose a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, raising concerns about potential disruptions to regional energy shipments.
Focus Shifts to U.S. Earnings
Investors are now turning their attention to quarterly results from U.S. technology giants, including Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC). These reports are seen as a key test for the market's artificial intelligence theme, which has been a primary driver of stock gains.
While recent results from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Samsung were strong, analysts cited by Investing.com noted that market expectations remain high. This leaves little room for disappointment and could introduce volatility if earnings fail to justify lofty valuations in the sector.
