Arcturus Stock Gains on Positive Drug Trial Data and New mRNA Platform

Summary
Arcturus Therapeutics shares rose after the company released encouraging interim Phase 2 data for its OTC deficiency treatment and unveiled a next-generation mRNA delivery platform with significantly higher potency.
Shares of Arcturus Therapeutics Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:ARCT) gained 5.3% in after-hours trading Wednesday following a series of positive announcements from the biotechnology company. The investor response was driven by promising interim clinical data for its lead therapeutic candidate and the introduction of a more powerful mRNA technology platform.
Clinical and Platform Developments
Arcturus reported that its drug candidate, ARCT-810, was generally safe and well-tolerated in an ongoing Phase 2 study for ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) deficiency, a rare genetic disorder. According to the company, the treatment successfully reduced or maintained ammonia levels within the normal range and also lowered glutamine levels in participants.
The company also unveiled LUNAR 2.0, its next-generation mRNA delivery platform. In non-human primate studies, LUNAR 2.0 demonstrated greater than 30-fold higher protein expression compared to its predecessor. Specific studies highlighted by the company showed:
- A 40-fold improvement in expressing human erythropoietin.
- 38-fold more potency than the key lipid used in ARCT-810 for expressing human ornithine transcarbamylase.
AdStrategic Pipeline and Acquisition
Building on the new platform, Arcturus plans to integrate a new therapeutic candidate, ARCT-2601, into its ongoing Phase 2 study by the end of 2026. The company stated this decision followed favorable feedback from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June. ARCT-2601, which utilizes the LUNAR 2.0 platform, is expected to offer the benefit of lower or less frequent dosing.
In a separate strategic move, Arcturus announced a definitive agreement to acquire myNEO, an AI-based discovery company. The transaction, expected to close in October, is intended to enhance Arcturus's capabilities in mRNA design, target identification, and overall innovation.
